Unfortunately, moving on from AMB82-MINI

We used the AMB82 board inside an enclosure along with few other sensors. The AMB was dedicated to video and photos with no other load while the rest of the sensors were talking to a Nano ESP32. The prototype worked well for 2 weeks outdoor in 50-70F weather.

On warmer days the peak temperature inside the enclosure was 120F. First the camera stopped capturing images in 2-3 weeks and a day later the board stopped communicating with the cloud a day later. All other sensors have been working fine

Initially the main draw for the AMB82, just like for many others, was the breakthrough picture quality and the potential to do edge AI. However we will have to stop development at point with the following feedback for others:

GOOD

  • Great picture quality
  • Extremely fast build and uploads of sketches
  • Good examples like RTSP

NOT GOOD

  • Inadequate websocket support
  • Most common I2C sensors like AHT11 don’t work
  • May not survive in warmer environments
  • API documentation and example code is not clean
  • Support is poor as this seems like a side project for the team
  • Driver library updates are slow

And understandably for a new product the support ecosystem is not there yet. Good luck to the team.
