To save power in a battery operated device, I want to be able to turn wifi on and off and planned to use BLE to do that. However, it appears that these are linked in AMB82-mini, so you can’t have BLE working alone. If wifi is turned off, then BLE is also off and vice versa. Is this the expected arrangement? Is there a native way to achieve what I need?
Update: So wifi is off initially, and BLE is on at reboot. However, when wifi is turned on, it can’t be turned off without turning off BLE.
Understanding that power saving is your priority, we do have a low power bluetooth chip + AMB82-mini working solution, where user could control AMB82-mini such as switching WiFi on and off using a low power bluetooth chip. Please let us know if you are interested in this solution.
Hi Kevin, yes, this is what we have been trying to implement - we have been able to switch wifi on using BLE, but if we then switch it off (to save power), it seems that also switches off BLE - so we can’t then switch on wifi again (unless the board is reset). Is this the expected operation? Best regards, Barry
This is expected as BLE and WLAN both share the same radio resources. However, this can be addressed by adding an additional low-power bluetooth chip. We strongly recommend you to use the low-power bluetooth chip + AMB82-mini solution to implement the BLE+WiFi operation. Thank you.
Thanks Kevin, actually that was our initial plan, but thought it would be possible to use the onboard BLE. Thanks again for your support. Regards, Barry
