I’ve been looking at how IoT devices can be connected with cloud platforms to make museum operations and visitor experiences more data-driven.
A simple architecture could be:
- IoT devices collect data such as visitor counts, room occupancy, temperature, exhibit interactions, or equipment status.
- The device sends the data to a cloud service through an API, MQTT, HTTP, or WebSocket connection.
- A backend processes and stores the data for reporting and analytics.
- The museum’s CRM or membership platform can then use relevant data to improve visitor engagement.
For example, a museum could combine IoT visitor data with digital membership card information to understand how frequently members visit particular areas or exhibits. A platform such as MembershipAnywhere could potentially be connected through APIs so that membership and visitor-related data can be used alongside IoT data.
I’m particularly interested in the technical side of this architecture. For an AMB82-based project, would you recommend sending data directly from the device to a cloud REST API, or using MQTT/WebSocket with a backend service in between?
