hello,
Is it possible to replace the provided camera with an other one dvp or mipi compatible?
I would like to use a IR camera for night vision .
Thanks

I think you can try it out. I have used an extension cable and adapter to extend the camera module. If the pins are correct, it should be possible to do so. In addition, the official seems to support image parameter adjustment recently. I have watched the latest official videos, which have switched between grayscale mode and day night mode. You can also replace the lens with the same interface without changing the sensor.

Hi @AI_Test, currently changing of camera sensor is not supported. You can try out the new features ISP adjustment in our SDK which you can set it to night mode.

Input [https://github.com/ambiot/ambpro2\_arduino/raw/dev/Arduino\_package/package\_realtek\_amebapro2\_early\_index.json](https://github.com/ambiot/ambpro2_arduino/raw/dev/Arduino_package/package_realtek_amebapro2_early_index.json) in Preference and install 4.0.6-build20231220. ISP Control related API and demo will be included in this pre release.

Does the current camera sensor IR capable?

No, the camera module currently is a fixed-focus module, and the lens used does not include any IR-related mechanisms.

Will it be in the future? Is this currently in the works? I’d like to be able to use a camera for a restricted fov and higher resolution

I manually adjusted the focal length and tested the actual image effect, as shown in the near and far focus images. I think there is basically no problem. I designed a circuit to drive the zoom lens and IR-CUT. When I get the circuit board, I will use the iIC of amb82 to drive the zoom and filter. What will be the actual test results.

I think what I am currently doing can provide you with some reference

Hello, I’m trying to make the same thing, I need to do very basic human detection, and for that I need this to be night and day. I see that I need to break down the camera and buy a new one, and this thread seems like a year old. I would love to know step by step products to buy and how to install them, this is helpful but being a student I dont want to buy something wrong and spend extra money, a basic steps or how to would be really great. I’m trying to keep it belo $70 as the NPU on this is strong and thus I want to use this device.

Please help!!

Please take a look at the latest update, which now supports multiple image sensors. I am glad that the official can hear the voices of all players on the forum, like it.

Hi @Happy_Hogan ,

May I check if you require the night-and-day feature for your project, or for production?

You may reach us at [AmebaAIoT@realtek.com](mailto:AmebaAIoT@realtek.com) with your project/production details, and we’ll be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

Hi @Pammy,

Thank you for responding. This is for a production-level project requiring continuous video streaming with reliable night vision capabilities for farm surveillance and human detection. The AM82 mini’s NPU is perfect for our edge AI requirements. Though I’ll only stream RTSP/WebRTC/HTTP stream from amb82 and inference on Jetson Nano. So yes later using NPU would be great but for now only HD night vision streaming.

Key specifications needed:

- **Minimum 1600x1200 (UXGA) resolution**, preferably 2048x1536 or higher for inference accuracy
- 24/7 Operation
- Strong IR night vision (850nm preferred) [I can attach the ring night vision [Amazon.com: Micro Traders 2x 24 850nm IR LEDs Infrared Light Board IR Range Up to 20-30m for Camera Surveillance System And Night Lighting of Various Cameras, Black : Electronics](https://a.co/d/dO39TuU) , [Amazon.com: 850nm 48pcs LED IR Illuminator Infrared Night Vision Light Lamp for CCTV Camera IR Illuminators : Electronics](https://a.co/d/49R2LZE) [Any of these or my own DIY]
- Ideally 180-degree fisheye lens for maximum coverage, though 160-degree would be acceptable. But must be IR Cut/IR Switching mechanism capable.
- 5-10fps streaming over WiFi to our edge processing system

The night vision is critical as most monitoring occurs during nighttime hours. We’re evaluating multiple units for deployment, targeting under $50 per unit for scalability.

Could you provide specific camera module recommendations compatible with AM82 mini that support IR/no-IR filter options and wide-angle lenses?

Thanks!

Any supported lens module is acceptable, the main issue is that you need to create an adapter PCB board to meet the input line sequence of the lens

In addition, if we want to control costs, there are actually many USB night vision lens modules that can be directly connected to Jetson Nano, which is also a common way in many Mars rover races.

Hello, thank you, i was trying to keep the cost really low, given our idea was to do object detection on the amb82 mini and do it at the night. Which is why i need to use a sensor which works really well at night. I looked into IMX 307,662,337 and realised they are good but didn’t find any off market night vision switching modules for these supported sensors. I don’t want to give up on the board yet, would be great to know what exact sensors you think may work really well.

My main concern is not just detection but also power. I have to make them ai enabled and battery powered which only these can do remotely good. Jetson and raspberry pi consume double power to give this level of work

</div>

So, in fact, you wouldn’t choose Jetson and Raspberry Pi, would you. So there are several ways to do recognition and detection, which can be done locally with AMB or in the cloud with ESP32. If the network environment is good, using ESP32 is low-cost. If the network environment is not good, then using AMB82 is indeed very good. I think IMX 307 is suitable for you, you can always trust Sony’s low light processing capabilities.

Thank you, as said, the networking is not good, so I have to rely on device networking mostly. the idea is to get IMX307, but I’m not finding any link for that which has a night shifter commercially, as if you think for 20-30 modules using glue and so on is not really effective. I literally hope that these amb82 mini worked with other sensors too
